Microsoft Office 365 migration update and instructions

Instructions regarding the upcoming April 11th migration of School of Engineering faculty and staff mailboxes to Microsoft Office 365.

Pre-migration preparation
Microsoft Windows computers that will use Office 365 are in the process of being updated and patched to ensure a smooth transition. To enable this, we remind you of the daily 10:00 p.m – 7:30 a.m. maintenance window and ask that you continue to leave your computer powered on overnight until migration activities conclude.

Migration support

Your mailbox will be migrated to Microsoft Office 365 starting at 5:00 p.m. on April 11th and concluding by 8:00 a.m. on April 12th. While your mailbox is in the process of being migrated, your email and calendar will be temporarily unavailable. All of your existing mail and all new mail will move to Office 365. Mail will continue to be delivered during this short outage.

As soon as your account has migrated, you can use the Office 365 online portal to access your mail and calendar. The mail and calendar icons will be visible on the portal page once you are migrated; if they are not, your mailbox is still transitioning to Office 365. Please feel free to preview the service in advance and make sure your login is correct. To open Office 365:

  1. Go to http://office365.uconn.edu and click “Login to the Office 365 Portal.”
  2. Enter your first.last@uconn.edu email address in the username field.
  3. Enter your NetID password in the password field.
  4. Click the Mail tile to open Outlook Web Access.

Post-migration impacts

To log into Office 365, you should use your first.last@uconn.edu email address and NetID password. All email clients, including phones and tablets, will need to be reconfigured to retrieve mail from the new location. Instructions for configuring mobile devices are available on the UConn Office 365 website. If you prefer to configure your devices yourself, you may want to print these instructions in advance.

On Tuesday, April 12th, staff from ETS and UITS will be stationed in all SoE buildings to reconfigure your mobile devices. Locations of support staff are posted at soe-migration.uconn.edu.
