Migration and Network Reconfiguration, Part II

Dear SoE faculty, staff, and graduate students,

We are writing to provide you with more details about upcoming network changes that will begin next month.

For the final stage of SoE’s migration to central services, we will be transferring individual clients (e.g., laptops, desktops, and printers) and servers (remotely accessible services) to separate networks. This strategy will improve SoE’s security posture by restricting unsafe inbound access to clients while establishing firewall policies to protect servers.

The changes to the SoE network will require us to update IP addresses. Most people will not notice a change in service. Below are the three main scenarios that may be impacted. If any apply to you, please let us know by filling out the IP Reporting form so that we can help you avoid a service disruption.
· Equipment that uses statically configured IP addresses
· Devices connected to the UConn network which provide remotely accessible content
· Printers that are directly connected to the SoE network

Once we receive your information, we will give you a new reservation on the network and coordinate firewall policies before we transition your building. We will be working through the nine SoE buildings one at a time at approximately the rate of one per week. More information about the timing and tentative order of the buildings is available on soe-migration.uconn.edu.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact the ETS Help Desk at 486-1821 or soehelp@uconn.edu.
