Data Storage Update

Hello,

Thank you for your patience while we continue to work on making our data available.   We and two important updates  for you.

  1. Network Share – Your departmental network shares should now be accessible! You need to do the following:
    1. Logoff or Restart your PC
    2. Go to Windows Explorer (Hold “Windows Key” and press “E Key”)
    3. Click on Q:\ drive
    4. Click on ENGR
    5. Under the ENGR you should have a list of the all of your shares.   They will be populated now.

NOTE:  By the end of next week 100% of your department shares will be found here.   This is your new location for these shares.

  1. Web Pages Moved to new location:

In order to meet the needs of the School of Engineering community, ETS and UITS migrated all users web personal directories(public_html) to a new server.  All www.engr.uconn.edu addresses should now be redirecting to “publicengr.uconn.edu” instead of to the HNAS (webhome.engr.uconn.edu).

One major change that we have implemented that effects all users is how you upload changes to your personal web pages.

In order to access your personal web pages with either OS X, GNU/Linux or Microsoft Windows, simply download any of these applications FileZilla, or CyberDuck. If you are not comfortable using any of these applications, you can use DreamWeaver or Microsoft Express or web client or your choice to connect to the server as well. Once downloaded or configured, you will need the following information to log on and begin updating your personal website data:

  1. Host Name: publicengr.uconn.edu
  2. Protocol: sFTP
  3. Port: 22
  4. Username: <Engineering username>
  5. Password: <Engineering password>
  6. The directory/folder where you web page information resides is called “public_html.”
  7. To view your personal website, please go to: http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~YOUR_USERNAME where YOUR_USERNAME is your engineering account username in lower case letters.

ETS is currently writing detailed documentation on how you can connect to your personal website and make changes to your content. If you have any questions, please contact Orlando Echevarria at orlando@uconn.edu for more information regarding connecting to your personal website.
