SoE Data Storage Update

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

We are writing to notify you about changes to the H: drive (Windows & /home for Linux users) that will occur tomorrow, October 26 between 5:30 – 7:30 am.

The School of Engineering’s file server that provides the H: drive is experiencing hardware failure. To address this pressing issue, we are moving your data to the central storage system and be provided a personal (P:) drive and a shared (Q:) drive. Within the P: drive, you will see a folder labeled SOEHOME, and inside this folder, you will see the directory structure from your H: drive. If you have Linux start-up files and directories, they will appear outside the SoE folder. Any research or administrative shared files will be transferred to your new Q: drive.

Starting tomorrow, we will also begin transferring your files on a rolling basis. This process may take until the end of next week to complete. During this transition time, you will have read-only access to your files in the original location (i.e., you can open but not save files), or if the files have been transferred, you can access them in the P: and Q: folders.

We apologize for the short notice of this change. We are deviating from the longer, less visible process because stability of the existing service is declining, and we are concerned about an impending failure.

If you have an existing Q: drive or have any comments, questions, or concerns, please contact the ETS Help Desk staff at help@engr.uconn.edu.

Regards,

Chris Tarricone, Virtual Infrastructure, Storage, & Compute
